Snapchat, TikTok or Google: where should a Saudi small business spend its first ad budget?

With a limited budget, the platform you start on matters. Here's how to choose based on what you sell and who buys it.

Every platform will tell you it’s the best place to advertise. With a first budget of a few thousand riyals, you can’t test them all properly — so start where your customers already are and where their intent matches your offer.

Google Search: when people already want what you sell

If customers search for your service — “furnished apartments Madinah”, “dental clinic near me”, “wedding planner Madinah” — Google Search ads put you in front of them at the moment they’re ready to act. It’s often the most efficient first channel for services with clear demand.

Snapchat: reaching a young Saudi audience

Snapchat is part of daily life for many young Saudis. It works well for restaurants, cafés, retail, beauty and entertainment — anything visual and local. Keep videos short, vertical and in Saudi Arabic.

TikTok: building attention with short video

TikTok rewards creative that feels native to the platform rather than polished ads. It’s strong for products with a story, launches and brand awareness. Plan for several video variations, not one.

Meta (Instagram & Facebook): retargeting and lead forms

Instagram is powerful for fashion, gifts, food and home products, and Meta’s lead forms and retargeting help you bring back people who visited your site but didn’t buy.

LinkedIn and X: B2B

If you sell to companies — software, contracting, manpower, corporate services — LinkedIn lets you target by job and industry, and X is where many Saudi business conversations happen.

A simple starting rule

  • Clear search demand for your service → start with Google Search
  • Visual, local, young audience → start with Snapchat
  • Product with a story → test TikTok
  • Selling to companies → LinkedIn

Whatever you choose, track it

Set up conversion tracking for WhatsApp clicks, calls and forms before you spend a riyal. Without it, you’re judging ads by likes — and likes don’t pay rent.
