How to get your Madinah business into Google Maps’ top three

Most local customers choose from the first three businesses Google shows on the map. Here's how to earn one of those spots — step by step.

Search for “restaurant near me” or “clinic near Al-Masjid an-Nabawi” and Google shows a map with three businesses under it. That small box — the local pack — gets most of the clicks, calls and direction requests. If your business isn’t in it, most nearby customers never see you.

The good news: ranking there doesn’t depend on a big budget. It depends on three things Google looks at — relevance, distance and prominence — and you control more of them than you think.

1. Claim and verify your Business Profile

If you haven’t claimed your listing, someone else may have created it with the wrong phone number or opening hours. Claim it, verify it, and make sure the business name matches your signboard and commercial registration exactly — no extra keywords stuffed into the name.

2. Choose the right primary category

Your primary category is the single strongest relevance signal. “Hotel” and “Furnished apartment building” compete in different searches; “Dental clinic” and “Medical clinic” do too. Pick the one that matches what most customers search for, then add secondary categories for the rest.

3. Fill every field — in Arabic and English

  • Description written for customers, mentioning your main services and area
  • Services and products with short descriptions and prices where possible
  • Accurate opening hours, including Ramadan and Eid hours
  • WhatsApp, website and booking links

4. Add real photos, regularly

Profiles with fresh photos get more direction requests. Add your storefront (so people recognise it), the inside, your team and your best products. Aim for a few new photos every month rather than fifty on day one.

5. Build a steady flow of reviews

Review count, rating and recency all matter. The easiest system in Saudi Arabia is WhatsApp: after a good visit or delivery, send a short thank-you message with your review link. Reply to every review — positive and negative — politely and in the customer’s language.

6. Make your website agree with your profile

Your name, address and phone should appear the same way on your website, your profile and any directories. Add a page for each main service and mention your neighbourhood naturally. Google trusts consistent information.

7. Post updates and offers

Profile posts don’t last long, but they show Google — and customers — that the business is active. Share seasonal offers, new products and Ramadan or National Day announcements.

How long does it take?

Fixing a neglected profile often shows results within weeks. Competitive categories in busy areas take longer and need reviews and website work to move up. Track direction requests and calls from the profile every month — those are the numbers that pay the bills.
